Former Alabama DB Jared Mayden placed on IR after being hurt in NFL debut
Former Alabama safety Jared Mayden’s NFL career got off to a tough start on Sunday, as he was injured in his San Francisco 49ers debut after picking up one tackle, in a loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Mayden was placed on practice squad injured reserve on Tuesday after what was reportedly a quad injury.
Mayden has been a practice squad player for the 49ers since signing as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL Draft. Mayden had just one season of significant action for Alabama in 2019, with four interceptions and 59 tackles.
The 49ers have dealt with a number of injuries to key players all season, and Mayden was looking to take advantage of his opportunity before he picked one up himself. Mayden will hope to get back on the field before the end of the season to keep his NFL chances alive.
