Former Alabama star Minkah Fitzpatrick is frustrated.
The first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins a year ago, Fitzpatrick has made it known that he’s not happy with his playing time or the positions he is playing in new coach Brian Flores’ defense, according to a report from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
“It’s a little frustration, but I have to shift my focus to what’s important,” Fitzpatrick said Friday regarding the trade rumors that became public late Thursday night. “I can’t focus on the trade talks and everything else like that. I have to focus on the New England Patriots, my teammates, my coaches, and this week’s game plan.”
Earlier, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Fitzpatrick’s agent has been given permission by the team to seek a trade, because he’s unhappy playing multiple positions. He played four positions in Sunday’s 59-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, he’s uncomfortable with his fluctuating role.
Along with his natural cornerback position, the Dolphins reportedly made Fitzpatrick learn six positions this offseason, including two linebacker spots.
The Dolphins drafted Fitzpatrick with the No. 11 overall pick in 2018, and the team’s asking price for the defensive back includes a first-round pick.
This is a situation to watch to see how the coaching staff and front office handles it the rest of the season.
