Former Alabama and current New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner is motivated to have a breakout season in 2016. The former No. 9 overall draft pick has battled injuries through his first three seasons with the Jets, which has limited him to just 21 appearances, which included missing the entire 2015 season.
“It made me mentally tougher,” Milliner told the New York Daily News this week. “You got to fight and get over it because it’s going to happen. It’s about how you’re going to come back from it. … I’m always going to have confidence in myself and what I can do. You got to have that going into the game. You got to go in there and say I can guard him. Do my technique and do what I’m supposed to do, and I can control the play.”
New York opted not to pick up its option on Milliner’s contract for the 2017 season, which should motivate him even more to have a breakout season in 2016. He is expected to play behind Darrelle Revis and Buster Skrine at cornerback.
The former Alabama defensive back was a unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC representative in 2012.
