An ex-Alabama defensive back has been cut from the Denver Broncos’ practice squad.

The Broncos on Tuesday announced that they had released Saivion Smith, who had been signed with the team since Aug. 3. He had been initially waived by the Broncos in preseason but eventually inked a deal with their practice squad.

Prior to his stint with the Broncos, Smith was on the Seattle Seahawks’ roster. He spent 2020 with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks and was eventually signed by the Dallas Cowboys, being named to the active roster on several occasions.

Smith played a season at LSU before transferring to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. After that, he signed with Alabama, where he recorded 60 tackles and 3 interceptions in 2018 — his 3 interceptions tops on the team.

Denver is currently 3-4. It faces the Washington Football Team on Sunday.
