Xavier McKinney’s workout at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis did not finish the way he had planned.

Chase Goodbread of NFL.com reports that the former Alabama defensive back had to cut his Sunday workout short due to cramps. The article notes, per NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones, that McKinney cramped during his first attempt at the 40-yard dash. He clocked a time of 4.63 seconds on that attempt.

McKinney is considered a top-15 overall prospect by some and is a likely first-round pick. While a poor Combine performance can hurt a player’s draft stock, McKinney should be able to ease any team’s concerns as long as he is a full go for Alabama’s Pro Day on March 24.

McKinney turned in a strong junior season in 2019, recording 95 tackles, three interceptions, three sacks and four forced fumbles, which earned him second-team All-America accolades from the AFCA, The Sporting News and Walter Camp as well as third-team All-American recognition from the Associated Press and Pro Football Focus. He was also named to the All-SEC first team by the league coaches and the Associated Press. McKinney’s 95 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss of 40 yards, led the Crimson Tide and were 10th highest in the SEC. The four forced fumbles led the SEC.
