Payne had a standout season for the Washington Commanders. He finished the 2022 season with 64 tackles (33 solo), including 18 for loss and recorded a career-high 11.5 sacks. He led the entire NFL in tackles for loss by an interior defensive lineman. The sack numbers rank No. 3 in the NFL and No. 1 in the NFC in sacks by an interior defensive lineman. Payne also logged 5 passes defended and 20 quarterback hits as a defensive tackle.
The NFL has changed the Pro Bowl format for 2023. The Pro Bowl Games will be a week-long skills showcase, capped by a flag football game held on Feb. 5 in Las Vegas.
