Former Alabama DL Quinton Dial was released by the San Francisco 49ers Saturday.

The team signed Dial to a three-year contract extension before the start of last season, but he won’t get to play the last two years of it. Dial was not a good fit for the 49ers new 4-3 scheme.

He started 26 games over the last two seasons.

The former Alabama standout was a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played for the Crimson Tide in 2011-2012, and prior to joining Alabama, Dial played for East Mississippi Community College.

The 49ers, like every other NFL team, is trimming their roster to 53 players by 1:00 pm Saturday. Another team will likely pick Dial up because he’s a solid DE in a 3-4 scheme.
