After spending the past 3 weeks in free agency, Maurice Smith has a new NFL opportunity. The Cincinnati Bengals have signed the former defensive back out of Georgia.

The Bengals announced the signing on Wednesday. Smith is entering his fourth season in the NFL. In 2017, he joined the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. He bounced between the practice squad and active roster throughout the 2018 season with Dolphins.

Miami waived Smith ahead of the 2019 season. He signed to Washington’s practice squad in October of 2019 and was promoted to the active roster in December. Washington waived Smith on Aug. 3, 2020.

Smith has played in 15 career games, recording 6 tackles and 2 passes defended.

Smith began his college football career at Alabama, playing for the Crimson Tide from 2013-15. In 2016, he joined Georgia as a grad transfer. Smith and Alabama battled over the transfer for roughly two months until the SEC granted a conditional waiver.
