Published:
Former Alabama QB AJ McCarron is working out for first-year New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll following injuries suffered by starter Daniel Jones and backup Tyrod Taylor.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the news on Twitter on Tuesday:
Among the QBs working out for the #Giants today is A.J. McCarron, sources say. He was with the #Bills in 2018, so there’s your Brian Daboll/Joe Schoen connection.

AJ McCarron played for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a member of Alabama’s 2009 title-winning squad and started at quarterback for the championship teams in 2011 and 2012. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Coach Brian Daboll has a previous relationship with McCarron during his time at Buffalo in 2018. McCarron has played a total of 15 games with 4 different organizations. He has 137 attempts in his professional career with 88 completions and a total 948 yards.
The Buffalo Bills ended up trading McCarron to the Oakland Raiders for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick after signing him to a 2-year, $10-million contract. He would end up with the Houston Texans in 2020 as the backup.
In his seven-year career in the NFL, McCarron has started 4 games.
