Former Alabama quarterback Eli Holstein spent 2024 and 2025 with Pitt before entering the transfer portal. He’s now found a new program and is set to remain in the ACC.
Holstein has committed to play for Virginia, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and 247Sports’ Jacquie Franciulli. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
After a historic 2025 that saw them win a program-record 11 games and qualify for their first ACC Championship Game since 2019, the Cavaliers will look different at quarterback after the departure of Chandler Morris. Tony Elliott has already landed former Mizzou signal caller Beau Pribula, who started 10 games for the Tigers in 2025.
Now, Holstein has joined the mix. In two seasons at Pitt, he threw for 3,309 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He started the Panthers’ first four games of 2025 before suffering a leg injury.
It’s the third school for Holstein, a former four-star recruit out of Louisiana for Nick Saban in 2023. He was rated the country’s No. 8 quarterback when he signed with the Crimson Tide that year. After one season in Tuscaloosa and a pair of seasons at Pitt, he now heads to Charlottesville to join a Cavaliers program that has seen renewed momentum.
