Alabama landed QB Layne Hatcher as a part of its 2018 class, but this spring, he decided to transfer to Arkansas State.
Now, that move has led to him becoming the starter, as QB Logan Bonner was lost for the season last weekend.
Per coach Blake Anderson, Hatcher seems prepared for the new role (via AL.com):
“I just think he steps in and he doesn’t look like a guy who’s afraid of the moment,” Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson told reporters Wednesday evening. “He’s prepared. He earned the team’s respect over the summer with how he came in and worked. Nobody, even Bonner, didn’t outwork him. … (Teammates) believe that the guy’s put in the time. And he looks like a guy that’s ready for the challenge.”
Hatcher was a 3-star quarterback out of Little Rock in the 2018 class, per his 247Sports recruiting profile.
How will he fare at Arkansas State? We’ll find out starting this weekend.
