Former Alabama running back Kenyan Drake has been released by the Indianapolis Colts, as was reported by Tom Pelissero on Sunday morning.
Drake originally signed with the Colts back in August when the team had to make up for the absences of Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss. In that role, Drake carried the ball 13 times for 36 yards and reeled in three receptions for 29 yards in the team’s three preseason games.
With the departure of Drake, Taylor, Moss, Deon Jackson, Evan Hull, Jake Funk, and Jason Huntley make up the remainder of the Colts running back room.
Since he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, he has spent time with four NFL teams outside of the Colts (Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens). Over the course of his NFL career, Drake totals 867 carries for 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns in 101 career games played.
He finished out his college career with the Crimson Tide with 233 carries for 1,495 yards and 18 touchdowns, seeing action in the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons. It will be interesting to see where the journeyman lands next as he looks to stick on an NFL roster.
