Former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief is reportedly taking a step up the coaching ladder. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, Kief will be the new wide receivers coach FCS program Towson.
Kief lands an on-field coaching position just over 3 years since his playing career ended, and after 2 years on Mike Locksley’s Maryland staff as a graduate assistant. Locksley was on staff at Alabama for 3 of Kief’s 5 seasons in Tuscaloosa (2016-18).
A former 4-star recruit from Cincinnati, Ohio, Kief signed with Alabama as part of the program’s 2014 recruiting class and played from 2015-to-2018. Primarily a special teams contributor, Kief played in 51 games for UA, recording 11 catches for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns in his career.
After playing at Alabama, Kief landed a tryout with the Buffalo Bills in 2019, when former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was on the NFL team’s staff.
