An in-state Alabama product and former Clay-Chalkville High School standout, Mbakwe spent two seasons at Alabama. He’ll have 2 remaining seasons of eligibility.
As a Class of 2024 recruit, Mbakwe was rated 5-stars, the No. 2 cornerback, No 3 player in the state of Alabama and No. 12 prospect overall on the 247Sports Composite. He chose Alabama over 28 other scholarship offers, including Auburn.
Mbakwe played defensive back his first season with the Crimson Tide. He logged 15 total tackles with a TFL as well as 2 pass breakups and 1 interception before working as a wide receiver for the bowl game.
The move to wide receiver stuck for the 2025 season. Mbakwe only saw limited involvement, however, in the passing game. He appeared in 10 games, logging 3 catches for 55 yards, while also continuing to contribute on special teams.
