Former Arkansas lineman Chris Smith has reportedly landed with a NFL team, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Smith, who was drafted 159th overall, in the fifth round, by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft, last played for the Cleveland Browns. Smith has started just two games in the NFL career, but played in 60 since 2014. His Browns stint was the most productive of his career, but he has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals along with Jacksonville.
Smith has a career 8.5 sacks, and played 16 games in each of the last two seasons.
At Arkansas, Smith shined for a team that won just seven games in 2012 and 2013 combined, he had a total of 18 sacks over those seasons, including a streak of 10 consecutive games spanning both years in which he recorded at least one-half sack. Smith was one of only two players in the SEC with at least nine sacks in 2012 who returned to play in 2013. The other was South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney.
Overall, he had 21.5 sacks in his college career, with seven passes defended and two forced fumbles.
Raiders are signing veteran defensive lineman Chris Smith to a one-year deal, per @RosenhausSports.
