Frank Ragnow was already considered tough but after what he just played through, there’s no denying his pain tolerance.
The former Arkansas offensive lineman fractured his throat during the first quarter of the Detroit Lions’ game last week against the Green Bay Packers but didn’t leave the contest. Amazingly, Ragnow didn’t give up a sack or pressure while dealing with the gruesome injury.
The condition is officially known as a Laryngeal fracture, which is caused by “significant high-velocity blunt trauma,” according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, via USA Today.
How rare is a Laryngeal fracture? Approximately one patient in 131,000 hospital admissions rare, according to the NCBI.
Ragnow’s teammates were in awe about his warrior mentality to power through the unique injury.
“It’s pretty impressive what he was able to do,” Lions quarterback Chase Daniel said via USA Today. “It was the guards relaying the calls to the running backs, and obviously when I came in it was all passes, so that was easy for us to do as quarterbacks while I was making all the calls and relaying it. We didn’t really seem to miss a beat, and it’s pretty incredible when your throat is fractured and you’re used to making all the calls.”
Ragnow was selected by the Lions with the 20th pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has played in 44 games with the Lions.
