Second-year pro Brandon Allen appeared in position to be named Jacksonville’s backup quarterback following a solid performance against Atlanta.

The former Arkansas quarterback completed 22-of-31 passes for 265 yards against the Falcons, but also threw three interceptions. Despite putting up better numbers in the preseason than Blake Bortles and Chad Henne, the Jaguars have let him go, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.

Allen seem to play well before the Jaguars moved the ball near the goal line of the preseason game against Atlanta.

“Three picks in the first half is obviously not something I’m very proud of,” Allen said after the game, according to the Florida Times-Union. ”Poor decisions cost us a lot of points. We were obviously moving the ball really well and we got down to the red zone and I made a couple of poor decisions. Luckily, our defense held real strong for us.”
