Former Auburn assistant coach Trooper Taylor was always visible on the Auburn sideline during his tenure with the program, waving his signature towel after big plays.
And there were plenty of big plays during Taylor’s time as the wide receivers coach from 2009 to 2012.
On Saturday, Taylor will make his return to Jordan-Hare Stadium with his new team — Arkansas State. He said being on the opposite sideline will be an interesting experience:
“It really just kind of sank in a little bit that I’m going out there and being on that other sideline,” Taylor said. “Being in the visitor locker room, I don’t know that I ever went into it, not even when I was there.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who was an assistant with the Tigers alongside Taylor, is excited to see his old colleague this weekend:
“Troop’s — he’s a wonderful person,” Malzahn said. “Trooper is a lot of fun, he’s a fun guy. Got a great personality, got a great family. He’s been very successful at Arkansas State and I knew that he would be a good fit for them and his son is a big-time player too.”
Arkansas State and Auburn will square off at 6:30 p.m. Central time on Saturday evening. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.
