The Bulldog battle of Todd Gurley vs. Sony Michel might be the biggest SEC storyline of Sunday’s Super Bowl, but it is far from the only one.

For former Auburn DB Blake Countess, playing against fellow AU alums Jonathan Jones and Brandon King makes The Big Game extra special. Being in Atlanta, where he flew in for his official visit to Auburn, is bringing back all kinds of memories from his season at Auburn as a graduate transfer.

“When I was coming for my official visit, flying in and then driving down with my mom, and meeting with (Will) Muschamp and (Travaris Robinson), it’s special for me,” Countess told Auburn student-run Eagle Eye TV. “And then guys like Jon Jones, who was a senior at the time that I was coming in, for him to embrace me and that whole team to embrace me, it’s going to be special. I didn’t get a chance to play with B-King, but just him being an Auburn guy, I know how he’s been coached, what he’s gone through at Auburn and kind of things like that. So it’s going to be special, man.”

Countess’ primary role with the Rams is on special teams, an area where Jones and King stand out for the Patriots.

“It’s definitely going to be special facing off with them guys who are two prolific special-teamers as well,” he said. “It’s going to be fun.”
