New Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin continues to build his staff, one that may soon feature a former Tigers defensive back.
According to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Zac Etheridge has “emerged as a top target” to become Auburn’s defensive backs coach. Etheridge was a defensive back for the Tigers from 2007-10, and he’s currently the cornerbacks coach at Houston.
Etheridge began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Penn State, then later served as an assistant at Georgia Tech, Western Carolina and Louisiana, before joining Houston’s staff prior to the 2019 season.
During his playing career at Auburn, Etheridge served as a team captain on the 2010 team that won the national title.
Harsin, who was hired to be the Tigers’ head coach last month, has been assembling his staff in recent days. On Thursday, it was announced that Mike Bobo had been hired as offensive coordinator and Derek Mason had been hired as defensive coordinator. Will Friend was also announced as Auburn’s new offensive line coach.
Soon, Harsin’s staff should be complete, as the vacancies are quickly getting filled. And another one could soon be taken if Etheridge ends up leaving Houston to return to his alma mater.
