Gus Malzahn has added a former player to his staff.
Former Auburn running back Andrew Williams announced on social media this weekend that he is returning to The Plains as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, working under head strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity that God has blessed me with. It’s nothing like coming back home to work under my mentor and the person who identified me as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Ryan Russell,” Williams posted on multiple social media platforms, including Facebook. “I’m excited to work with this staff and help with the development of our athletes @auburnfootball. This is my dream and i’m grateful! Let’s ride!”
Williams, from Sunflower, Alabama, joined Auburn in 2013 after transferring from Miles College. He earned two degrees from AU, Interdisciplinary Studies (2016) and Adult and Continuing Education and Teaching (2018). His post-playing career includes time at Auburn as a graduate assistant with the strength and conditioning program as well strength-and-conditioning coach at Western Kentucky and assistant athletic director for sports performance at South Carolina State.
An Auburn spokesperson confirmed to Brandon Marcello of 247Sports that Williams replaces Morris Henry, who left the Auburn staff this offseason. Henry had been on Malzahn’s staff since the 2016 season.
