Carlito Gonzalez will play for the Tigers this fall, just not the ones he signed with in February.
Gonzales, who failed to academically qualify at Auburn, has enrolled at Memphis.
According to AL.com’s James Crepea, Gonzales tweeted about the decision from a private Twitter account. AU coach Gus Malzahn had said earlier this week that Gonzalez would likely go the junior college route.
“Where the #uofm21 students at ?? change of plans University Of Memphis,” Gonzalez tweeted Thursday afternoon. “It’s so many connections and stuff being revealed and happening to me to prove That God Is REAL and he loves ME. I’m blessed humble.”
Because of academics, Gonzalez will redshirt this season at Memphis.
Gus Malzahn told reporters earlier this week that Gonzalez didn't qualify academically. He'll be an academic redshirt at Memphis in '17.

A 3-star safety from Stone Mountain, Ga., Gonzalez originally chose Auburn over offers from South Carolina and Kentucky. He was the No. 27 safety and No. 37 Georgia product on the 247Sports Composite.
