Kam Martin’s decision to sign with Auburn may have been swayed by former Baylor coach Art Briles.
Martin had originally signed with Baylor prior to Briles’ termination in June. Shortly after, the four-star running back was granted his release and signed with Auburn in July.
But it was a recommendation from Briles that helped entice Martin into joining Auburn, running backs coach Tim Horton revealed to 247Sports Monday.
“Kam Martin was going to Baylor,” Horton said. “Kam Martin loved Baylor and still likes Baylor. He loves Art Briles. When all that went down, Kam is at Auburn to a great extent because of Art Briles. He decided he was going to leave. Art Briles thinks a lot of Coach Malzahn, thinks a lot of our staff and thinks he’s a good fit offensively. He gave us a really good recommendation to Kam.”
Martin recorded 3,500 yards and 44 touchdowns during his high school career. He will compete for playing time as a true freshman following the dismissal of former starting running back Jovon Robinson.
