Former, current players have diverse reactions to Jalen Hurd’s departure
The departure of Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd on Monday morning took the college football world by storm.
It’s rather surprising — considering Hurd was UT’s starting tailback for the past few seasons. Entering the 2016 season, he was only 891 yards away from becoming Tennessee’s all-time leading rusher.
Regardless, his departure has completely shook things up. It’s caused an uproar on social media. Multiple players — past and present — have commented on the news.
Pig Howard was a receiver for the Vols. He led the team in receiving in back-to-back years (2013, ’14) before being dismissed from the team in 2015 for a violation of team rules.
He tweeted these somewhat cryptic thoughts on Hurd’s status:
Not surprised.

Former DB D’Andre Payne — now at Iowa State — was a signee under head coach Butch Jones in 2014 during his first full recruiting class. He had this to say about Hurd:

On the other side of the proverbial coin, current UT defender Todd Kelly Jr. centered his thoughts on unity and togetherness:

Lastly, sophomore RB John Kelly II — the expected starter with Hurd gone and Alvin Kamara injured — offered this message:
