After a season on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad, former Florida center Jonotthan Harrison has secured another opportunity to continue his professional football career. Harrison signed a one-year futures deal with the New York Giants worth $2 million on Sunday.

As NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport noted, Harrison’s deal is nearly double the league minimum ($1.05 million), which is rare to see on a futures contract. Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports elaborated that futures deals allow teams to give players the opportunity to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster without the deal counting against the club’s salary cap or roster limit for the current season. Harrison getting over league minimum indicates that the Giants are confident he’ll be contributing on the active roster in the 2021 season.

Harrison signed at Florida in 2009, redshirted, and played for the Gators from 2010-13. He went undrafted in 2014 but has managed to have a multi-season NFL career, playing 84 games (42 starts). He was with the Indianapolis Colts from 2014-16 and the New York Jets from 2017-19. He did not play in a Bills game while on the practice squad in 2020.
