Former Florida DB Brian Edwards has reportedly found his new school. Evan Petzold of the Central Michigan student newspaper Central Michigan Life reports that sources have told him Edwards has selected CMU as his transfer destination, reuniting him with former Gators coach Jim McElwain.
Edwards, a Miramar product from Hollywood, Florida, was rated a 3-star recruit in the class of 2017 (McElwain’s last at UF) on the 247Sports Composite. He played in 18 games during two seasons (2017-18) at UF.
Edwards impressed during Florida’s 2019 spring practice, but made the wrong kind of headlines in May when he was charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly choking his girlfriend. The charge was dropped due to lack of evidence in June, but Edwards announced on July 8 that he planned to transfer from the Gators.
In two seasons, Edwards recorded seven tackles, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Barring a waiver, Edwards would need to sit out the 2019 season before having two years of eligibility remaining. A South Florida native heading to Michigan could probably use some time to adjust.
