Former Florida running back La’Mical Perine was released by the New York Jets Tuesday ahead of the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline at 4 pm.

Perine was a fourth round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, and was battling with two newer backs (Breece Hall and Michael Carter) and veteran Tevin Coleman for a fourth backfield roster spot against Ty Johnson and Zonovan Knight.

Perine totaled 2,485 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns in his four years in The Swamp. He also hauled in 8 touchdown receptions.

The 5-foot-11, 216-pound bruiser back has seen limited action in the NFL since arriving in The Big Apple in 2020. He’s totaled 72 rushes across 14 games for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns. He played just four games last season.
