Former Gators safety arrested along with Browns teammate after traffic stop
Former Florida safety De’Ante “Pop” Saunders was arrested early Friday morning along with Cleveland Browns teammate, outside linebacker Armonty Bryant.
WOIO TV in Cleveland reported that Saunders, who is on the Browns’ practice squad, was driving when he was stopped along I-71 and arrested at 2:16 a.m. for operating a vehicle under the influence and speeding. According to the report, it was not immediately clear why Bryant was arrested.
As a result, Bryant — who is second on the team with 5.5 sacks this season — will not play Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The team was aware of the players’ arrests and issued a statement on Saturday morning.
“These are charges that we take very seriously,” the statement says. “The importance of responsible decision-making is something we continually stress to all members of our organization, which makes it extremely disappointing that these two individuals would put themselves in this situation by making such poor decisions.”
Saunders started 16 of the 20 games he played while at Florida in 2011 and 2012 before transferring to Tennessee State in 2013. He finished his UF career with 44 tackles, 3 interceptions (one taken back for a touchdown) and a forced fumble.
