Florida baseball is well-represented in the MLB. On Monday, Jonathan India became the second former Gator of the last 3 years to win Rookie of the Year. India was recognized as the National League’s top rookie, the same honor that went to Pete Alonso in 2019.

India, who played at UF from 2016-18, is the first Cincinnati player since 1999 to win ROTY. Cincinnati drafted India No. 5 overall in 2018. This season, the Reds infielder posted a .269/.376/.459 batting line, hitting 21 home runs with 69 RBIs while scoring 98 runs. Florida communications notes India became the first rookie in MLB history to have at least 20 home runs, 20 hit-by-pitches and 10 stolen bases in the same season.
