Former Florida WR Antonio Callaway reportedly hit with another NFL suspension

Former Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway’s NFL comeback has been pushed back a few weeks. Already serving the remainder of a 2019 suspension, Callaway has been hit with another suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The NFL has tacked on an additional four games according to Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel and Josh Tolentino of The Athletic, meaning Callaway won’t be eligible to suit up “until his team has played seven games.”

Callaway’s current team is the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins signed him to their practice squad at the end of preseason camp, ahead of their 2020 season-opener. Miami lost its season-opener 21-11 to the New England Patriots. The Dolphins’ eighth game is scheduled for Nov. 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.

In November 2019, Callaway was suspended 10 games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy and waived by the Cleveland Browns. Over the 2018-19 seasons, Callaway appeared in 20 games for the Browns, catching 51 passes for 675 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Callaway was set to play for the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers this past winter but was placed on injured reserve ahead of the first game with a reported lower-leg injury.
