South Carolina’s linebacker depth will be taking a hit this offseason as former top recruit Sherrod Pittman is leaving the team. Pittman came to Columbia rated as the nation’s No. 23 outside linebacker prospect and was a four-star recruit in 2015.

Pittman announced the news Friday morning via Twitter:

According to a report from John Whittle of The Big Spur, this tweet confirms the news they have of Pittman transferring out of Will Muschamp’s program. Pittman only managed to register two tackles in his career with the Gamecocks, after redshirting in 2015.

While Pittman is out, the Gamecocks will be getting a huge boost in the linebacker corps in 2017 with the return of Skai Moore to the lineup. Moore, a 2015 All-SEC selection, missed the entire 2016 season after suffering an injury to his neck during the previous offseason.
