Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis has made it to two Pro Bowls since joining the NFL in 2005, but the former Georgia star is nearing the end of his career.

At age 34, Davis has suffered some severe injuries during his career, but has been relatively healthy so far in 2017.

According to a post Davis wrote for NFL.com, Davis is planning to retire after the 2018 season, fulfilling the contract obligations he has with the Panthers:

For me, I really can’t see me playing past the 2018 season. This will definitely be my last year coming up. One of the reasons is I want to continue my contractual obligations. I signed on for a one-year extension, and I want to complete that. I’ve never been a guy to quit anything and I’m not going to start doing that now.

The Panthers were eliminated from postseason play by the New Orleans Saints this year, but they have a squad that could return to the playoffs next year.

Now that he has a set retirement date, he’ll likely get the star treatment during the 2018 season.
