The 2018 season is ending early for Hal Mumme. The former Kentucky head football coach reportedly stepped down as Jackson State University’s offensive coordinator, according to a report by Anthony McDougle of The Clarion-Ledger.
JSU head coach Tony Hughes confirmed Mumme’s departure in a press release.
“I would like to thank Hal Mumme for his contributions to the Jackson State football program,” head coach Tony Hughes said in a press release. “We wish Hal nothing but success going forward.”
Mumme, known for running the air raid offense, has been coaching in college football since 1980. His multi-decade coaching career includes a stop at Kentucky as head coach of the Wildcats from 1997-2000. After his UK tenure, Mumme coached at Southeastern Louisiana, New Mexico State and McMurry as a head coach. He was SMU’s offensive coordinator for the 2013 season before becoming the head coach at Bellhaven for 2014-17. This was his first season with Jackson State.
McDougle notes that so far, Jackson State (1-2, 0-1 SWAC) has yet to score 20 points in a game.
