Former LSU DB Jalen Collins is looking to get his professional football career back on track by playing in the new XFL. He originally landed with the Los Angeles Wildcats in November’s Supplemental Draft, but is reportedly headed to a new destination. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Collins was traded to the Tampa Bay Vipers.
Collins departed LSU after four seasons (2011-14) as a redshirt junior to enter the 2015 NFL Draft. He was originally projected by many as first-round pick, but revelations of failed substance tests hurt his draft stock. Collins was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 42 overall pick in the second round, going on to sign a four-year, $5.42 million deal. He ran into trouble ahead of the 2017 season, being suspended for 10 games by the NFL after failing a PED test. He was with the Indianapolis Colts during 2018-19, bouncing multiple times between the practice squad and active roster.
The Vipers will open the 2020 season at the New York Guardians on Feb. 9.
