Former LSU and Louisiana Tech wide receiver Devonta Lee has passed away. Lee was 27 years old.
Lee’s death was confirmed by the LSU Athletics Department on Thursday afternoon. LSU released the following statement concerning the tragic news: “The LSU Football family mourns the loss of former Tiger, Devonta Lee. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates.”
Lee played two seasons at LSU after being listed as a top-10 prospect in the state of Louisiana out of high school. His first year was the 2019 national title season. He totaled 11 receptions for the Tigers in 2019 and 2021, amassing 112 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown.
Following his 2021 season with LSU, Lee transferred Louisiana Tech. Several months later, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, after experiencing discomfort at a Bulldogs practice. According to KNOE, Lee was declared cancer-free a year later after weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.
Louisiana Tech released a statement on social media Thursday concerning Lee’s passing.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Devonta Lee, a former Bulldog wide receiver,” the post read. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time. He will always be remembered as a member of the Bulldog family.”
