Ahead of their season opener on Sunday, the New Orleans Saints have placed offensive lineman Will Clapp on their injured reserve list.

Clapp’s injury was undisclosed, but he will be eligible to return after Week 3 depending on his recovery. Under the new IR rules, players will need to sit a minimum of 3 weeks if placed on the list, as opposed to a minimum of 8 weeks in prior seasons.

Clapp was a 2-time All-SEC 1st-team performer in back-to-back seasons with LSU in 2016 and 2017. A 7th-round draft pick by the Saints in 2018, he played in 25 games with the team throughout his first 3 seasons in the NFL.

The Saints open their 2021 season on Sunday as they take on the Green Bay Packers. That game will be played at TIAA Bank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., instead of the Caesars Superdome as a result of the effects of Hurricane Ida on the New Orleans area.
