The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the Louisville Cardinals in the TaxSlayer Bowl on Saturday afternoon, but will do so with a limited coaching staff.
That’s because head coach Dan Mullen and a couple of assistants left Starkville to head to Florida this offseason.
However, former MSU assistant Billy Gonzales was still wishing the Bulldogs the best, even as he works to rebuild the Florida program. On Saturday morning, he sent a classy tweet to his former team:
Thank you to the HailState Family for allowing me to build life long friendships with both players, and the Starkville community. Good luck to the Bulldogs today in the Taxslayer Bowl. Pulling for this team to be apart of History with another 9 win season. Bring it home! Go Dogs!

The Bulldogs will also be without star QB Nick Fitzgerald, who was injured in the Egg Bowl, so it’ll be tough to hang with former Heisman winner Lamar Jackson and the Louisville offense.
However, anything can happen in bowl games, and it’s clear Gonzales will be watching and rooting for the players he spent the 2017 season with.
Check out the TaxSlayer Bowl at noon Eastern time on ESPN.
