Former Mississippi State QB Tommy Stevens signed to NFL practice squad

Former Mississippi State quarterback Tommy Stevens is getting an NFL opportunity at a new position. The New Orleans Saints announced that they have signed Stevens to their practice squad as a tight end. The Saints selected Stevens in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He converted to tight end during training camp.
Stevens joined Mississippi State as a graduate transfer from Penn State in 2019, reuniting with former Nittany Lions offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead. At MSU, Stevens started all nine games he appeared in while completing 60.2 percent (97‐of‐161) of his passes for 1,155 yards and 11 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions (136.9 rating). Stevens also added 381 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on 83 attempts.
In his three seasons at Penn State, Stevens appeared in 20 games for the Nittany Lions primarily as a rushing and receiving threat, carrying 76 times for 506 yards and eight touchdowns while catching 14 passes for 62 yards and ten touchdowns.
The goal is obviously to make the 53-man roster, but with Stevens learning a new position and the likelihood of practice squad members being activated to replace players in COVID-19 quarantine, this looks like a good first-year opportunity for the former Bulldog.
