According to reports, former Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald participated in a workout with the Houston Texans on Monday afternoon.

Fitzgerald was not selected during the 2019 NFL Draft, but Tampa Bay signed him as an undrafted free agent, only to eventually add him to their practice squad and then cut him in October. He has not signed with another NFL team since, but a strong workout performance could earn him a roster spot with the Texans in due time.

Fitzgerald is looking for a home in the NFL after a decorated career in Starkville that saw him emerge as the starting quarterback after Dak Prescott’s graduation. He threw for 6,203 yards, 55 touchdowns and 30 interceptions as a member of the Bulldogs, while rushing for 3,607 yards and 46 touchdowns on 601 carries.

In 2017, Fitzgerald was a semifinalist for the both Maxwell Award, given to the best all-around player in the country, and the Davey O’Brien Award, given to the country’s top quarterback.
