Former Mizzou defensive back E.J. Gaines will not play this season for the St. Louis Rams after having surgery to repair a Lisfranc foot injury suffered the first weekend of fall camp.
Gaines made the NFL’s All-Rookie Team last season and was battling for a starting spot in the secondary this season.
“It’s a tough break,” said a team source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, to STL Today. “But the team will roll on. He’ll be 100 percent when he comes back. We’ll keep him busy and keep him occupied during his rehab.”
The 2014 sixth-round pick started his final three seasons at Mizzou and recorded a team-best five interceptions as a senior.
We wish Gaines the best during the recovery process.
