Former Oklahoma offensive lineman Creed Humphrey is resetting the market for centers throughout the NFL. According to reports throughout Thursday evening, Humphrey has agreed to a long-term extension with the Kansas City Chiefs to become the highest-paid center in NFL history.
NFL insider Adam Schefter with ESPN reports the new deal for Humphrey is a 4-year deal worth up to $72 million. That pushes Humphrey ahead of former Arkansas center Frank Ragnow to become the highest-paid center in the league.
Humphrey’s contract guarantee is reported to be $50 million, eclipsing the previous record for a guarantee to a center that was also held by Ragnow.
ESPN Sources: Chiefs and Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey reached agreement on a four-year, $72 million extension, including $50 million guaranteed. Humphrey now becomes the highest-paid center in NFL history.

While at Oklahoma, Humphrey was the Big 12’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2019 and 2020 to go with a first-team All-Big 12 nod both seasons. He was also a 3rd-team All-American in 2020.
Humphrey would eventually become a 2nd-round pick of the Chiefs in 2021, but it did not take long for him to carve out his spot in the lineup. He has started 51 games since his rookie season, including serving as the team’s starting center in back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
