The Houston Texans on Thursday placed safety A.J. Moore on injured reserve.

Sportstalk 790 in Houston reports that Moore has been battling a hamstring injury, leading to the move to place him on the IR. To fill the open roster spot, the team signed linebacker Joe Thomas.

A former Texans team captain, Moore played for the Ole Miss Rebels from 2014-2017. During his college career, he recorded 132 tackles and 10.5 tackles for a loss. His 5.5 TFLs as a junior in 2016 was 3rd on the team.

He then signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New England Patriots before being waived prior to the 2018 regular season. He was then signed by the Texans, where he played in every game in both 2018 and 2019.

The injury bug hit Moore in 2020 as a hamstring injury kept him out until the Texans’ Week 10 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Under new rules enacted by the league this year, Moore can return after Week 3 if healthy, as opposed to needing to be out at least 8 weeks in previous years.
