Former Ole Miss DL Jerrell Powe blasts NCAA in invitation to his graduation ceremony

Jerrell Powe has had his issues with the NCAA, as his first two years of college were a mess while he tried to get things sorted out so he could play at Ole Miss.

A stop at a prep school turned into a year in which he couldn’t play for the Rebels, though he was on Ole Miss’s campus. When he was finally able to play, he turned into a solid defensive tackle, and was eventually a sixth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Now, following a five-year NFL career that ended in 2015, Powe is finally graduating from Ole Miss. In the tweet below, he sarcastically invites NCAA directors Mark Emmert and Myles Brand to “take a break from keeping young men from getting a college education” to attend his graduation ceremony:

Powe fell in the 2011 NFL Draft in part because he was 24 at the time of the draft — older than most of the other players.

Now, though, he’s earning his degree, and that’ll help him with whatever the future holds.
