Former Ole Miss player and Southern Miss starter MJ Daniels has passed away. He was 21 years old at the time.
The Golden Eagles confirmed the tragic news on Wednesday that Daniels, a standout defensive back with the team, was killed in a Tuesday night incident that occurred off campus. He recorded 3 interceptions, 4 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles in his first season at Southern Miss after 2 years in the Ole Miss program.

According to Andrew Abadie and Haskel Burns with The Pine Belt News, Daniels was killed during a late-night shooting in Hattiesburg. A spokesperson for the Hattiesburg Police Department said the shooting happened around 9 pm Tuesday night, and the Forrest County Coroner confirmed Daniels’ identity.
