The San Diego Chargers signed former Ole Miss running back Dexter McCluster to a contract worth up to $2 million on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
McCluster, 28, was waived by the Tennessee Titans prior to the start of the 2016 regular season. During his two-year stint in Nashville, the former Pro Bowler accounted for 835 total yards and three touchdowns as a versatile threat in the backfield.
The Chargers are hoping to use McCluster in a way that they used Danny Woodhead, who is out for the season with an ACL tear, as an elusive run-catch option.
McCluster was an exceptional athlete for Ole Miss. From 2006-09, he totaled 3,658 yards and 22 scores, averaging a dynamic 8.42 yards per touch.
