Former SEC QB Mike Wright has landed a new starting gig.
Wright began his career with Vanderbilt, where he played in 26 games over 3 seasons. The QB then transferred to Mississippi State for the 2023 season where he was a gadget player who ended with the 2nd-most rush attempts on the team.
After the season, Wright transferred to Northwestern. Now, the QB is getting another chance to start as the Wildcats announced Wright as the team’s starting QB.

Wright beat out Jack Lausch and Ryan Hilinski for the job. Both Lausch and Hilinski attempted a few passes for the Wildcats in 2023, but neither was impressive enough this summer.
Wright now gets his 3rd shot to start at a power conference program. At Vanderbilt, Wright completed 184 of 333 passes for 2,067 yards with 21 TDs and 11 INTs. Wright also rushed 176 times for 905 yards and 7 TDs in his Vanderbilt career.
For the Bulldogs, Wright completed 48 of 85 passes for 453 yards with 4 TDs and 4 INTs. The QB did most of his damage on the ground in Starkville, rushing 71 times for 324 yards and 3 TDs.
The Wildcats surprised people in 2023 by winning 8 games. The Wildcats earned a bid in the Las Vegas Bowl, where they defeated the Utah Utes. The team will kick off the 2024 season on Saturday against Miami OH.
