Former South Carolina offensive lineman Brandon Shell has reportedly signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It’s the biggest payday of Shell’s young career after he made $2.02 million in 2019. The former fifth-round draft pick spent his first four seasons playing with the New York Jets (2016-19). Schefter points out that the move is a quasi-trade via free agency as New York signed former Seattle offensive tackle George Fant.
Shell may not receive the warmest of welcomes from Seattle’s 12th Man. Pro Football Focus rated the former Gamecock No. 54 among NFL offensive tackles in the 2019 season. The Seahawks are obviously optimistic that a change of scenery (and coaching) will benefit Shell.
Shell played both right and left tackle at South Carolina (2012-15). He earned Freshman All-SEC recognition as a first-year Gamecock. After his college career, he was selected No. 158 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Seattle adding offensive line help: Seahawks reached agreement on a two-year, $11 million deal with former Jets’ OT Brandon Shell, per source.
Almost like an accidental free-agent OT trade: Seattle gets Shell, Jets get former Seahawks OT George Fant.
