Former South Carolina slugger Grayson Greiner had a memorable day on Sunday with his first home run this season.
The Detroit Tigers catcher hit a 2-1 pitch in the sixth inning for a home run off of Logan Allen of the Cleveland Indians for a 5-1 lead for the Tigers. This is Greiner’s third season in the big leagues, and he had five HRs last season.
Greiner hit it 398 feet with an exit velocity of 112 m.p.h.
Drafted in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft, Greiner made his debut in May, 2018.
He’s a career .201 hitter with 34 RBIs and now six home runs.
In 2014 with the Gamecocks, Greiner was a semifinalist for Johnny Bench Award, named to USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Watch List and named to SEC All-Defensive Team. He played in 60 games with 58 starts, hit .311 (66-for-212) with 39 runs scored, 50 RBI, 13 doubles and eight homers, also a .389 on-base percentage and a .486 slugging mark.

Grayson Greiner @ggreiner21 with some great swings lately. The bomb today. He also lined out to SS. Then he nearly took Dane Dunning’s head off with a liner last time he played. #DetroitRoots
