The Tennessee Volunteers officially parted ways with Butch Jones Sunday, and one of his former players recently shared his reaction to the news.
Former Volunteers RB Alvin Kamara was a dynamic back during his time in Knoxville. He posted 988 totals yards in 2016 while scoring 13 offensive TDs. He averaged 6.9 yards a touch with the offense and proved he could be effective in multiple facets of the game.
Kamara was asked about the recent decision of Tennessee to move on from Jones who was his head coach during his time with the Vols. Kamara labeled it an unfortunate situation that you never want to see happen. Matt Moscona with Gridiron Now shared Kamara’s comments that were made on Moscona’s radio show:
“We were on the bus going to the airport and somebody told me, ‘You saw Butch got fired?’ and I’m like ‘Aw, man.’ It was one of those things where it looked like it was coming,” Kamara said. “It’s unfortunate. You never want that to happen. It’s a lot of people involved besides him – people’s families, the guys on the team, the kids that are committed.”
Kamara also commented that he has been hearing a lot about Gruden potentially heading to Tennessee, and he said he would certainly play for Gruden.
Kamara is having a strong season as a rookie in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints. He has 791 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns on the season. He also has served as a kick returner and has five returns for 120 yards.
