The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best running backs in the NFL in former Georgia star Todd Gurley II, and he’s coming off a 2017 season in which he won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.

In the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Rams selected former Tennessee star John Kelly, and now he’ll try to land a spot as Gurley’s backup.

This week, he sat down with TheRams.com, saying he’s excited for the opportunity to learn from Gurley, who has a very similar skill set to Kelly:

“Oh yeah, I definitely got a chance to watch Todd play over the years,” he said. “I think he’s a great back in the league, obviously. I really just can’t wait to be able to learn some of the things that he was able to do and just be able to compete with him at practice. So I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

Kelly isn’t going to supplant Gurley as the starter anytime soon, but the backup role is wide open.

If the former Vol has a good preseason, he could find himself getting plenty of work this fall.
